I recently had the opportunity to search a number of bank wrapped 1980 small cent rolls this past week and managed to pull a nice BU example struck on a 3.1g planchet like the one LindalCoins recently posted about here http://goccf.com/t/469673.

Since this one was directly out of an unopened bank wrapped roll, I will be sending it off to PCGS with my next shipment in hopes for the "1980 1C Struck on Barbados 3.1g Planchet" attribution.

They are out there!

It should be 2.8g, are you going by weight to tell the difference?

Are the diameters identical on these two coins?

For the most part, yes. When you start weighing small cents you get a general idea of what the common weights are for that specific date.

For 1980 they all weighed in around 2.78 to 2.81g (normal) and when this one hit the scale it was 3.1g dead on.

Yes, Barbados 1c planchets and Canadian 1c planchets both have a 19mm diameter.

Nice find John, I found a 1980 several years ago that weighed 3.29 , I just assumed it was struck on a leftover 79 planchet
