Just seeing a normal, well circulated and beat up quarter so far.

Don't give up. The law of averages will eventually turn on your side. Can't find if you don't search..........

Have you studied doubleddie.com and error-ref.com? Those websites have excellent information on varieties and genuine errors.

People have had 59 years to pick through 1965 quarters. Why don't you start with something small and plentiful like modern nickel DDRs? I find 2 or 3 every time I search through $20 from my credit union. That would at least get you into the game of finding features under magnification, using the online reference catalogs like Variety Vista and Wexler, and confirming coins by markers. You can get a phone magnifier for $10, and you probably own a flashlight. It's frustrating to not find anything good, and you don't want to burn up your enthusiasm early.

Error coins are far and few between - that is why they are sought out - and they don't come on every search.
Like Brand stated, start with a series of coins that are known to have plenty of error coins to be found.

Yes, don't give up. As mentioned in other posts, I've been searching for many, many, many years--digging through mountains of coins. With all that, I've found very little--it's the way it is. The key is time and volume of coins searched. As noted by others, try concentrating on one series/denomination for a while.

For perspective, keep your expectations somewhat reasonable. For those who search barns for long lost '57 Corvettes, they discover quickly that such finds are very few and far between. Might come across a ratty '74 Ford Maverick, however....

I had searched almost 15000 nickels before I found my first worthwhile error coin, a very nice die clash nickel.
