Why don't you start with something small and plentiful like modern nickel DDRs? I find 2 or 3 every time I search through $20 from my credit union. That would at least get you into the game of finding features under magnification, using the online reference catalogs like Variety Vista and Wexler, and confirming coins by markers. You can get a phone magnifier for $10, and you probably own a flashlight. It's frustrating to not find anything good, and you don't want to burn up your enthusiasm early. As mentioned in other posts, I've been searching for many, many, many years--digging through mountains of coins. With all that, I've found very little--it's the way it is. The key is time and volume of coins searched. As noted by others, try concentrating on one series/denomination for a while. For perspective, keep your expectations somewhat reasonable. For those who search barns for long lost '57 Corvettes, they discover quickly that such finds are very few and far between. Might come across a ratty '74 Ford Maverick, however....
