Hello, ive been trying to find pictures of authentic edge lettering of both type 1 lettering and type 2 but unfortunately google doesn't have any lol. Every site that says "remember to check the edge and compare" yet no one has an authentic picture of the edge to compare to lol. Does anyone have any sites that have ACTUAL pictures of the edge lettering of both coins and not just "Its suppose to say this". Or even some pics of their own to share would be helpful. On page 7 of google images and its all ebay pics no edges and even pages that are strictly numismatics have no pics of the edges somehow.

Tried, they just show some of the varieties. can't seem to find a single place that shows clear pics of what the edge lettering looks like for comparisons.

Are you talking about the half dollars with the decorated edge vs the plain edge (only lettering) that transitioned in 1807?

jacrispies - I'm more so looking for both edge lettering types for cross references. If its from 1750-1900, I want a pic of the edge if possible.

John1 - yes I have. Even went to the "faq" page for the coin, not a single person or example of the edge by comparison lol. Plenty of people posting pics of the edge, but only people saying "yes that's the wrong edge or yes that's the right edge" no ACTUAL pictures of the edges and what they should look like. Could be deep in the back, but I can't seem to find it.

You would think with the edges being a major factor in their authenticity by TPG's that the edge would be shown SOMEWHERE, I find that extremely weird lol. Youd think TPGs would post edge pics of coins with edge lettering.

This is the decorated edge of a 1795. The edges lettering is tough to read but some words can be made out.

To compare, here is an 1800 draped bust dollar that shows a similar decorated edge.

Here is a type II, no decorations (1814 O-105a). The early dates of the capped bust type, around 1807-1811, the edges are very crude and sometimes illegible.
