I started off buying a 1973 France FDC set since I'm part French and born in 1973. Like every other collector, it started a domino effect and I'm now I'm collecting the string 1964-2001 when France converted to the Euro.
Sets from 1968 on were packaged like current US Mint sets. (1964-1967 are in vinyl pages and the coins are easily removed). Some of these sets are on the rare side. They all come in nice boxes.
I'm looking for some advice.
a. Should I keep as is thus limited the "displayability" but preserves the value b. should I open them, put them in 2x2s and put them in pages in an album c. should I open them and find some sort of album to put them although I don't know of any Dansco type albums for French coins d. something else I'm not thinking of
Thank you in advance for any advice you can give me.

I recall seeing one of those sets here and thinking it might use PVC in the packaging.
Check yours to see if the coins look good or are starting to oxidize or get gunk on their surface. If they are getting damaged I say rescue them into better holders. If not leave them be. The one I saw looked nice.

The 1964-1967 sets were in PVC and I've already limited half of them. I'm waiting for an order of acetone.
It'd be a shame if O couldn't display those sets somehow. Maybe I can find an album to display mint sets.

Another option is to get them graded by. The 1973 set received ms-68s and half ms-69s from ANACS.

I have 1965, 1973, 1974, 1977, 1979 and 1980. They are all still in original packaging and I've had the 1973-4 sets for 50 years with virtually no sign of deterioration. The 1965 coins look as if they had some sort of protective coating before they were put in the vinyl sleeve.

I believe PVC "needs help" to do its damage, like being improperly stored in an unstable environment.
That being said, I personally would not take the chance. Dansco albums are my first choice. However, as you have already graded some, I will not talk you out of going that route.

Feel free to talk me out of it. I bought a second 1973 set.

Quote: I bought a second 1973 set. Ah! One set for encapsulation, the other for an album. I have the same for my Ikes—Dansco set and PCGS set.

The PVC packaging on the 1964-1967 sets is real bad.

Sorry about that late responses. I missed them.
@NumisBob - How do you display your sets? Do you just keep them in the boxes? That's what I've done so far and it's kinda boring and a bit of a pain when I want to go through them.
@Jbuck - It's funny you should mention your graded Ike set and one in an album. I'm doing the same thing. I'm pretty much done with my graded Ike set. I picked up a couple of UNC Ikes at the FUN show. I had the #21 Ike set a few years ago but I moved on but I might take another at it and see if I can upgrade anything.
I still haven't decided what to do with the FDC sets. The 1968 is outrageously priced. It's not like they are that popular even with the low mintage.
