I have this 1976 Jefferson nickel that appears to be struck on a half blank? The coin has no raised edge, and weighs 2.55gm. The coin does not appear to have been sanded or ground. Any insight would be appreciated.

First thing first: your phone is too close to focus on the coin. Pull it back until it focuses the camera normally. Then crop the picture in the Photos app, and resize below 300kB with the free Image Size app (or another one like Pixlr).

If not sanded but yet light in weight, small diameter, and thin then a long soak in acid would be your best bet.

It has either been intentionally corroded with acid or has been in an acidic environment for a very long time. In most cases, this attacks the copper component of the copper-nickel that the coins are made of. Since it's an alloy, the designs will still be relatively intact despite the missing material.

to 03cribo03 and NandJ Sure looks like an acid dipped nickel. Quote: Maybe the middle removed and then re-connected!

It's not impossible that it's a wrong planchet coin. But as others have said here, acid will produce a shrinking effect. However, I was under the impression that acid shrinks proportionally, including the rim. This coin doesn't appear to have a rim or complete outer devices. Perhaps that would imply grinding more than acid?

That Orea does not appear to be the Double-Stuffed variety.
