Technically, it's not "ancient". Ancinet coins go up to about 500 AD (think ancient Greek, Ancient Roman). After that, they're "medieval". They didn't start using coats-of-arms like that shield until the Crusader period (1100 or so). The style of this coin looks later than that, but not by much - 1300's or 1400's, I would guess. Location? Not sure. Somewhere in Central Europe (Poland or Silesia) would be a guess. There's just not enough of the legend left to read clearly on either side.

The Coat of Arms is the best clue here. It's four lions, some with "two tails", some with one. The "two-tailed lion" is a common symbol for Bohemia, hence the abovementioned guess of Central Europe. I'll keep an eye out for anything else that might be helpful.

Well, Bohemia is or used to be Austria.
Thats an early 1300's medieval thaler I think.
Thats just my guess...

Nah, can't be a thaler - it's too small. Might be a groschen/grosz or fraction thereof.

The old kingdom of Bohemia occupied most of what is now known as the Czech Republic; Prague was the capital. Silesia was to the north of this, in Poland and eastern Germany.
