On tonight's episode of my interesting finds, I bring you this 1982-P small date penny weighing in at 3.1 grams. I know the 1982-D variation with these specs is valuable, is this 1982-P version special as well?
Your copper version may have a smaller mintage than the copper plated zinc cents but still only worth face value if you spend it. It is in nice condition though - good enough to save in a 2x2 or fill a hole in an album
Thanks for the input! I think I'll hold on to this one. After going through all the pennies in the change jar (very large jar haha) and sorting through the various dates, I only found two 1982 small date variations. 1) This copper one and 2) A zinc one which has something weird on the reverse (I'll post that one soon lol).
The description of the 1982 bronze penny in the below link is what prompted this post.
Quote: 1982 Small Date Bronze Penny The small date variant is super rare and highly sought-after by coin collectors. Despite the huge mintage number, these pieces are hard to find in circulated and uncirculated conditions. That explains why they often fetch a higher price.
You can buy the whole set lg. and sm. zinc and copper for 5 dollars sealed package in unc. condition or just the sm. copper for about 2 dollars in unc. condition. So I question the statement of " super rare and highly sought after"
