A Google search for this company only shows ebay listings. The auction I saw on Google was from seller Numisnetics and sold in 2004. The only current listing is the one you referenced by Crouse1028. There are two completed listings for the same coin from seller whyteboy2283 from February also. Even at a starting price of $2.99 the coin did not sell. All of these sellers are from different parts of the country, but it all looks fishy to me.

Is it possible that AFCGS is just something someone made up?

Possible? Almost certain. They're springing up like weeds.

never heard of it I dont trust a whole that has to do with ebay I am sure there are a lot of fine reputable honest people that sell and buy on there I only seem to see or hear about the worst. but I do believe from the short time I have beeen in this forum that I would be willing to do business with most of the people hear if they were on ebay

Wow... they must have standards... they are not pr70's. I think if I were to buy on ebay, I would go with SGS... so I know I get the best. (They was a lot of sarcasm there)

Hey!! SGS you can send in over 10 coins and they only charge you 9.00 per coin and you are guaranteed to get a MS-70 grade. Cant beat that with a stick

Can't seem to find anything about them in the Slab Book or google. How many minutes have they been in business?

Well, the first sale I saw was from 2004. The other two auctions were 2006. All were for State Quarters. I would guess that an ebay seller started slabbing in his basement, sold a couple of these for very cheap money, and now the buyers of those coins are trying to get rid of them. By the way, did any of you notice in the auction for the 5 quarters that one of their MS69 coins has hazing on it? [:0]

I ran into one the other day that was new to me at least. It was NNC and stood for 'National Numismatic Certification'. From what I was able to determine, it was little more than a plastic wrap for an raw coin. It had absolutely no value as far as 'certification' was concerned. IMO

Maybe Bobby and Susan should start one up. CCC (Coin Community Certification) I am sure your grading standards are a lot higher than everyone elses. You can make millions!
