I have found in rolls an SBA and a Sacagawea both on the wrong planchet. The SBA is manganese and the Sacagawea is nickel. Have you folks found this to be at all common among what's out there in circulation?

If the Presidential coin is/was plated, would that have filled-in the script on the edge?

Soooo....is there a way (more than speculation) to say these were minted on the wrong planchets?

They could have been plated.

My guess is that someone dumped pop-pop's stash of "tribute" coins from Parade magazine ads. Would an XRF gun give a proper reading through plating? It is more intended to read solid bullion metals, right?

I'm just going to put these in flips and add them to my collection of 'oddities'.

Not a bad idea. They are always good examples for future comparison.

Unusual indeed - but most likely plated post mint.

Good call to set them aside as oddities.

Just take them to a Jewelry store and have them XRF'd for a metal analysis!
