Hello,
While browsing a German auction site, I came across a 1914-D quarter eagle with colours...
just wondering if there really is such a coin. Or, what it really is?
Unfortunately this image is all I have at the moment. It is scanned off the Auctioneers catalogue.

any comment would be appreciated
perhaps I have it in the wrong forum section?

Now where's the old thread where we had a laugh about this (on the actual ebay listing...). I actually bid spot for this! And now it's already for sale in Germany?

Could this be the same coin?

And it would be great if someone could find the original post. I think the title only had to do with ebay, nothing to do with the fact it was colorized.

And by the way to answer your question, no. This is not really a coin. Somebody just had fun with a marker and a considerably rare coin.

75EUR/102USD? That's less than spot right now... (111USD)

German auctioneer claims it is enameled
so, colour marker is out..
Auctioneer has a great reputation.
prices seen on the scan are call prices for the auction.. i.e. minumum start prices in EURO

My local shop had an enameled quarter eagle in the case for a long time that had a similar appearance to that one, that stuff is basically painted on by hand. I would imagine that acetone of another solvent could remove it. That is a decent starting price at just under spot but who knows how high it may go.

thanks guys, very interesting. coin on ebay might be the same, who knows.
but this brings up another subject alltogethe. will start a new subject as not to confuse it.

my first thought was it is a "CENTSLES" coin. they had several german coins, enameled coins and sold them as authentic german 5 reichsmark pieces until I sent them an email...they were removed faster than a lightening strike. Hoever, ONE did sell befor at ofer 300 $, about 2 years ago.
