Not that it was a bad roll...pretty well seeded I believe. But a 1912 lincoln, a very dark (black)vf out of the roll had a nick with very bright orange red copper showing. The problem is that these were supposedly rolled in 1976 at a bank. I believe the copper would have darkened a bit over the last 33 years. Another unsearched ebay lot...lol.

Phew. I thought I was going to have to break the news to another poor soul; instead, I found a post by someone who gets it. Nah, highly unlikely that roll has been around for 33 years.

I figure with the amount of uncirculated rolls that are not actually uncirculated rolls floating around there, you are better off just buying the individual coins you want. E-bay has a lot of unscrupulous people selling "unsearched rolls".

I have mentioned this before in another thread, but I have nine Nickle rolls (pre-60) that I recovered from my old room at my mother's place, which have not been opened since 1984. So 25 years later, I am tempted to see what I rolled "back in the day".
success,

"Unsearched shotgun roll from ebay" Well atleast you know now, the "unsearched" is a word people on ebay like to use along with Found Treasure, from Estate Hoard, Too many to look through, old jar of coins, ect....to get you to buy into nothing more than their common leftovers...

I raraly bid on these type of auctions and I always check feedback before I bid. One guy bid over $40.00 for a roll because it had a '57 FE on end of roll. It must have been mighty worn because he said he lost out in the long run...lol. I didn't do as bad as he did I guess. Although the roll was 48% 1940's & 50's (6 s mints), there were 6 steels and 6 indians 5vg & a 1875 ag (end coin). Also 8 in the 1930's and 5 teens & twenties and a 1909. My roll was $13.00.

i have an "imperial gallon" (Canadian - approx. 5 US quarts), whiskey bottle. I emptied the bottle in approx. 1976. I don't remember what year it was finally filled. all LMC. I am certain there are NO wheat's in there, but it should constitute an UN-searched batch of cents for me to look through - from my own stacth.

It seems to be a fairly common ebay trick to sell an "unsearched" roll which obviously has a "good coin" at the end that is showing. One listing was accompanied by a nice story of the ebayer rolling the coins for granny when he was younger.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but the OP said the roll was "supposedly" rolled in 1976.
That seems very possible. I can tell you from personal experience that a roll rolled in 1976 will not have many wheaties at all and whatever was found back then had already been picked through and through.
As many members on this forum, I collected actively as a child in the 60's and 70's. When I re-discovered those Lincoln albums, they contained precious little of value besides memories.

I guess that technically these sellers are honest. The coins have not been searched since they have been rolled making the rolls "unsearched". Just don't ever believe that the coins have not been studied.
