@psh, could you please also add a picture of the edge of this piece? I suspect that you have a so-called Magician's coin. Thx.

Hi Spence Thankyou for your reply When you say edge - what does that mean? Can you be more specific/detail Thanks

I think Spence wants a photo of the actual edge of the coin. Often these double heads are made by grinding down and then soldering together 2 coins, which leaves a thin line all the way round the edge as a give away. Personally the lettering on this one looks so crude I suspect this is a cast confection rather than a Magician's coin.

Thx for clarifying @paddy. Yes exactly--the thin side. I'm looking for a seam that indicates that two genuine coins were sanded roughly halfway down and then sandwiched together. This seems to be the older way of creating Magician's coins, with the newer method being to hollow out one coin and then turn down the rim on a second one so that it fits in the pocket of the first. In that case, the seam will appear around the rim near the denticles. I'm not seeing this on your coin, so the only two other possibilities are this sandwich or else a complete fabrication outside of the mint. For sure, this piece didn't leave the mint looking like this.

Glad to help. Magician's coins are a fun find and while not really worth anything, still a neat addition for your collection.
