Hello I found this penny in my pocket change and noticed it has alot of errors I believe. First of all is it a genuine 1964 no mint sms or no? Ok this coin after looking at it at a close up the pL in liberty is on the rim' as well ass looks like double die if I'm not mistaken. It seems to have a different looking finish than other pennies' all over the obverse if you look real close I see several dates on it one being 1951, AND LOOKS LIKE A FEW OTHERS NOT TO SURE YOU CAN KINDA SEE THEM. as well as liberty and in god we trust located in several places on the obverse. Now on the reverse I can see Lincoln to the left of the building 'dates and in got we trust all over as well. I'm curious as to what is really going on with this coin' and is it a sms on the loose....if so is it worth being graded and would it be worth anything I've never seen such a coin with so much happening on it . Any info would be appreciated is there any value Thank you all for any info it will help.

Giant pic overload, all too soft to evaluate.

Try again.

To CCF! Looks like a normal Business Strike Cent with damage ( PMD) and Pareidolia. Here's a link to the SMS Cent. https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin...-sms-rd/3284

You have a better chance of getting hit by lightning 6 days in a row than finding ANY 1964 SMS coin in the wild.

@just, first welcome to CCF. Second, while you have identified an area commonly exhibiting die cracks (the lower right corner of the Lincoln Memorial), in this case the linear mark there appears to be a gouge (mechanical damage) rather than a die crack.

With all kidding aside - all of what you are trying to show looks just like circulation damage. Remember, if there is metal movement on the coins surface then it is just damage.

Shown is a penny that needs to be spent!
Definitely not an SMS . A little research on the
1964 SMS coinage will show one and only one
original source of the Issue the mint directors estate
of the time in question .
A query , with absolutely no offence to the OP .
Why are newby roll hunters and coin collectors numismatic geniuses!?
Is it due to the silly YouTube
Videos that are posted daily?
Or a woeful inability to buy or
Borrow a book or to on coins?

Pacificoin, PCGS could put an end to that nonsense by editing the final sentence of their article:

Quote:
The 1964 SMS coins are extremely scarce, but regardless, more are still believed to be out there that have not been attributed yet.

More than one person claiming to have found a 1964 SMS coin has read this (or learned it from Youtube or wherever) and interpret it to mean "there are many SMS coins out there - maybe mine is one!".
