Hello community. I got two small bronze pennies from Philly. Both are slightly off center, but uncle Abe looks a lot younger in one of them. Both coins weigh around 3.09 grams. I am assuming one is more deteriorated than the other. Your thoughts please.

Both are showing a very minor Misaligned Die. They're also both circulated. Just spenders.

I am with you on that. Not trying to make money selling coins and not sure what can get for them . Is the miss alignment what is causing the looks to be different?

Your coins are also toned as well. The misalignment and the toning is what is making them look different. They both worth face value.

The one on the right might be a later die stage. That might explain the differences. Not only does the bust of Lincoln look different, but the B in LIBERTY looks different, the first A in AMERICA looks a little wider, and the N and the T in CENT appear to be closer together.

Different dies, at much different states of wear on them will change the appearance of the devices..

Die stage can affect appearances in a drastic way.

I agree with Dearborn. To me it seems pretty clear the coins were minted with different dies. The entire bust of the coin on the right, to me, appears to be a different engraving. It seems to have a weird, longer neck.

Thank you all so much for the explanations. The answers really make sense. Do they reuse the reverse dies from previous years or produce new ones?

I think Dearborn says it best.

Quote: It seems to have a weird, longer neck. I think that has to do the top collar line being eroded, adding to the length of the neck.
