Each round I will have a coin for someone to win. What coin? - that's for you to figure out by asking yes/no questions.
The round will begin upon my say so and will end when someone correctly guesses the coin I am playing. A new round will begin shortly thereafter.
Players ask a question and I will answer "yes" or "no".
e.g. "Is an effigy of Queen Victoria on the obverse of this coin?"
You may wish to ask about year of issue, country of issue, weight, diameter, denomination, metal composition. . .whatever you think will help you identify this coin but beware you may be helping everyone else.
This contest is every player for themself. Feel free to go off on your own tangent that other players will find difficult to follow.
You may ask as many questions as you want but must wait for me to answer your question before asking another. Only 1 unanswered question per player is permitted.
There is no limit to the number of questions either by a single player or in total (This is NOT 20 questions)
A question must end with a question mark. If it doesn't it will be considered chat and be ignored.
You must have asked a question during the round to make a guess. No lurking with intent to snipe in for the win. You cannot ask a question and make a guess in the same post.
If more than one player guesses the correct coin the winner is the player who posted first.
When making a guess you should start with "I guess . . ." or "my guess is. . ."
Guesses must include enough information to uniquely identify the coin. Date, country, denomination and any
mint mark or variety. KM# and N# (Numista number) may also be included. e.g. "I guess a 1942S Australian 1 shilling KM#39 N#2975"
If you ask "Is it a 1942S Australian Shilling?" I will take it as a question and simply answer yes or no.
Only 1 guess per player per round is permitted. I will wait at least 2 minutes after a guess before I declare it correct or incorrect in case you made a mistake or changed your mind.
Edited guesses will not be accepted If you made a mistake you must delete that post and submit a new one.
If your guess is correct you win the coin and the round is over. Otherwise play continues and you must sit out the remainder of the round. You are not allowed to make any more guesses or ask any more questions.
I will endeavour to answer questions promptly and have rounds completed before I retire for the night but unforeseen circumstances may arise.
There is no limit to the amount of rounds you are allowed to win.
As to the coins offered as prizes, I intend to make them as appealing as possible. A lot will be uncirculated, none will be slabbed. Please don't guess the coin if you are not interested in owning it. I'm sure someone else will appreciate it.
Numista is your friend.
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/index.phpAll coins I will play will be on Numista under "coins". I will not be playing any tokens, medals or banknotes.
This contest will end Thursday evening 9 January 2025 Australian time (Thursday morning forum time) and prizes will be mailed from 14 January following receipt of a PM from winners containing their name and address (
Which means you must have at least 50 posts)
Good luck everyone
