Mike's correct, post Mint damage. Could have been squeezed in some type of clamp pressing the Cents together, which tranfered the designs on the coins hign points. A clashed die would be opposite this, thus making this a impossible error. ~ Jim
Jim's description is correct. These vandalized coins are generally referred to as "squeeze jobs", "vise jobs", "sandwich jobs", and "hammer jobs". One or both faces are squeezed against another coin. In the case of this particular coin, it looks like the reverse was pressed against a textured surface while the obverse was pressed against another cent.
