Hi, I also have a 1939 at 2.8 as well as a 1934-D. No acid baths here. Is there any value to under weight coins that are not in MS condition?

Again, within/close to regular mint tolerance for weight. No real added value.
Average circulated condition '34 & '39.

As far as I know tolerance is 0.13 off 3.11 which makes these 0.29 off. Also curious why pcgs attributes the 2.8 if within tolerance? Just trying to learn, thanks!

Heath, Please share your findings from PCGS.
Another possible likely reason for slightly lighter than normal weight would be a
rolled thin planchet.

They're underweight, but I don't think it's enough to add any real value.

Not much quality control back in the 30's. The mint isn't going to scrap a whole roll of coin stock just for being a bit off of tolerance - 2.98 to 3.24. Even though a under or over weight planchet is considered an "error" - it has to be a "large enough" difference to be worth any kind of premium.

If they weighed 2.82 g in uncirculated condition then there might be some interest but as they show average circulation wear, it is no big deal. The planchet was probably near the lower limit and then add in wear and its underweight. Also, just because a scale can read to 0.01 g doesn't mean that that is the scale's accuracy. Quite often, and probably in most cases, a scale's readability is better that its accuracy.
