Picked off ebay as a potential inverted knob-S mint mark. I cannot classify this thing as rightside up or upside down, or even as knob-S or trumpet tail S.
First line of images is near vertical, 0/90/180/270 to the light. Bottom line are tilted slightly, same light rotations.
I know what you are saying, fplagge. When you put the vertical cut of a knob-S at 90 degrees, the knob protrudes out over the belly of the lower S curve.
What's giving me a headache is that the bottom tail doesn't have the typical keyhole shape.
It could be an actual knob-S mint mark inverted, like this one:
I don't know why that mint mark looks more withered with circulation, though. I thought circulation tends to crush the S outwards, making it broader and flatter over time.
Appears to be inverted MMS-006 to me. The upper serif looks to have the "flat spot". On the normal positioned mint mark the "flat spot" is on the lower ball. http://www.varietyvista.com/06%20Me...20Styles.htm
