I have bought from Heritage on many occasions, as far as how do they compare to ebay I have to say its a whole different class than ebay is in. They have only certified coins on their site and you are usually competing with established collectors not just everyone in the worls like ebay. You are more likely to pay what the coin is worth on Heritage because of this fact, and have seen some go higher than what they list for on certain rare dates. That is another thing, you will find alot more rarities on Heritage in alot better condition than you would on ebay also because its usually dealers/collectors selling off their collections or their family selling off their estate and can find coins that hasnt been on the market in many years

Heritage is a good company with only certified coins from top grading services. Remember, they are an auction company so every purchase has a 15% buyers fee on top of the purchase price.
Rest in Peace

Yes, Heritage is a reputable auction house but as Bryan stated, it's in a totally different class from ebay. Heritage (and Bowers and Merena, and Superior) sell mostly high end coins with a lot of zeros after the dollar signs. In as many instances as not, I've seen the bidding go above (and often well above) the current market value as listed in various price guides (e.g., PCGS Price Guide, Coin Values) plus the Buyer's Premium (normally 15%, 20% if bought through ebay). For certain rare coins (e.g., 1804 Bust Dollars) which Heritage has sold, there is NO book value and the sky is the limit. Heritage also differs from ebay in that it reviews each coin before it is sold and will guarantee its sales. One does not shop at Heritage for raw circulated common coins to fill a hole in a Whitman album.

Heritage also maintains a database of coins sold so that collectors can determine recent and historic coin prices realized:

I watch Heritage a lot, but have only participated in one auction, which I won at less than the current list. Also, I looked into selling them a few coins & received a decent offer, I thought. Ultimately, I ended up trading the coins to David Lawrence Rare Coins for my '53-C $5 Lib & did quite well. Both are class organizations, IMO, however, since I live in Texas Heritage charges me sales tax (8.25%) which is a deterrant for me. Also, Win Callender at DLRC will really work with you to make a deal. Additional plus for DLRC is that their salesmen are not paid commissions. Hope this helps!
