The upper tip of the C shows contact marks, this is a well dirculated coin with circulation contact marks on all the fields, I agree with PMD

also..if you zoom in so close on your coins there are going to be plenty of microscopic thing showing up.
Those tiny little "shards" as you call them are of no consequence to coin collecting. Zoom out with your pictures!
