to the CCF, Ruthless80! Exposure to high heat can cause swelling of clad coins such as shown on your coin. This is not a mint error.

Yes, appears to be a 'high heat' issue--perhaps someone fooling around with a hobby-grade torch.

If it were heat damage wouldn't there be discoloration?

I agree with a pin point torch to create this, can't really tell about the color or if it had been cleaned up afterwards.

to the CCF and spot heating.

Circulation would have removed any discoloration. Notice how the area that's bubbled up is shinier than the rest of the surface, that's from circulation.

Good explanation Cujohn.

Not sure if this is a damaged coin. Someone posted in 2013, 2014, and 2022 with this exact date, mint, and the bubbles are in the exact same places on all 5 coins(including mine). Could it be possible for all the coins to be damaged in the same places?

Yes, it is entirely possible for more than one coin to be damaged in the same place, if it happened once why couldn't it happen again? The more important question is how could this happen in the minting process? The answer to that one is it couldn't. Spend a little time studying up on how coins are made, it's a well documented relatively simple manufacturing process. Then, see if you can explain where, and how this could happen during minting.

@cliffordbjeane24:

First off - to CCF and ...

Can you please post up an image of your coin here? I would like to see it.
Once you do I can split your coin to a topic of its own for a far better conservation about it. (I will reference this topic to give your coin and topic more context)
