Brandmeister Pillar of the Community United States 6473 Posts	Posted 02/04/2025 01:05 am That looks like false doubling from replating circulated coins with zinc. It's fairly unique to the 1943 zinc plated steel cents. Replating was popular to refurbish the coins, but for whatever reason, the plating can build up around lettering and devices, creating the appearance of doubling.
