Very nice.

You are the expert on these and I am not. Just curious about the terminology. Why would this not be called a 'Retained Die Break' about to become a Cud when the broken die section falls away?

San Francisco was a hot mess for Retained Cuds in 1940.

This is a pretty good definition for a Retained Cud.
Well, basically, when it falls away it will become a Cud (since the die break starts and ends at the rim).

Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

I'm not 100% sure what you are asking but think you may be referring to RIDB's which are Retained Interior Die Breaks and they do not involve the rim, where Retained Cuds do. Here is a link to all of the definitions and below that is a link where I explained the difference between a Pre-cud and a Retained Cud.

I should think that one is die 53. That's the most common reverse Retained Cud for that year.
