I think my only coin this week is this 1654 giulio of Innocent X. Noteworthy on the obverse is what looks like a dove with an olive branch? (on the Pamphili family coat of arms).

Quote: on the obverse is what looks like a dove with an olive branch? Probably just a pigeon trying to make a nest where it shouldn't

That's a fantastic bit of artistry on the reverse showing the dragon. I really like it. And the coat of arms (with the dove and olive branch) reminds me of the more modern 100 Lira coin that was used in the early '70's.
I do have some more coins that I can post here but it might be tomorrow or Wednesday before I get a chance to.

I'm sure I do have an Innocent X coin but can;t seem to locate it - so I'll have to move on to Urban VIII. The first one is this Quattrino depicting Saints Peter and Paul with fronted busts and rays above from, I think, 1625. I particularly like it as the obverse shield depicts bees - and my other hobby is beekeeping.

Many thanks tdziemia for pointing out the new entries to Numista. There's quite a few omissions from the Papal States from this sort of time period so perhaps this thread will throw up a few more fillers.
I really do like the portraits here - as you say they seem to show younger people than the usual depictions.
Yes - both my wife and I are in a beekeeping club and the US situation was mentioned. Apparently it's the worst die-off in many years. I believe that the average over-wintering US losses are around 50% which to use here in Northern Ireland seems horrendous - our is around 10-15%. I have my suspicion that it's breeding for pollination/honey production to the detriment of "survivability" that's part of the problem. We tend to stick to the local black bee (Apis mellifera mellifera) which has evolved to survive winter as a priority so that's just what they do :)

This is my other Urban VIII Quattrino - also from the Rome mint. The reverse here shows Saint Michael fighting with Satan. Saint Michael has one leg on Satan's chest while holding sword above his head in his right hand. I think this example is slightly more clear than the one on Numista - certainly the obverse is.( https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pi...117325.html) Not dated but attributed to 1636-1637.
