ok, so this coin appears a few posts down, but I started a new thread specifically to ask what people think this may get as a grade at PCGS.
And to ask how I go about getting it graded, as the PCGS website is not clear that I can unless I'm some form of member; and it seems to depend on knowing the value, which I don't. And what service should I ask for?

The coin is well documented here with high res images and a video of each side, as well as a detailed analysis of what it is, and a link to a 'compare images' page I made:
https://btsimonh.github.io/KwangTungDollar/

And there are a selection sold coins for comparison here:
https://archive.stacksbowers.com/?q...9c0a08f7f1f9
Stacks' specialist in HK said it was genuine, but not high enough value for them.

Please, anyone with grading experience, add your thoughts & discuss. It is what it is, found in a box unprotected amongst about a kg of other coins, probably unopened since 1970.
I want to sell, but I want to do it right in honour of my (deceased) mother in law who unknowingly owned it :).
I need to decide if grading will add value or saleability, or if I may spend more grading than the value it may fetch.

Thanks in advance, Simon

I would estimate the grade is EF, possibly details from an old cleaning and the minor rim damage. Definitely not close to a mint state grade.

I thought I would post the photos here to make it easier for people to grade. It's a nice coin, and if authenticity is confirmed, it would likely sell for more if graded and authenticated by a TPG rather than raw. But it would cost about $50-70 to get it graded and slabbed, and you might need to have a dealer submit it for you if you're not a member of PCGS or NGC.

Excuse my ignorance.
So mint state grade -> MS.
EF -> extra fine?
Do EF get numbers?

Anyone in suffolk uk who could organise grading?

Yes, MS is mint state. EF or XF is extremely fine. If it's a problem-free coin, EF grades would be EF-40 or EF-45. But if it's a details coin from a prior cleaning or damage, it's often just lumped together as EF. I didn't realize you are from the UK. Not sure how much shipping might increase the grading costs.

btsimonh, I see you took some new photos. In my experience to see these photos, I am sure your coin is genuine old of period. I am wondering do you have chance to take photo in natural light--not very strong sun light. Inside room photos can see surface clear. But in sun light patina can show more clear. I think this image was token in sun light

If you have high res photo image token in sun light I want to see.

OK, we got sun today (after snow yesterday!), so I added six more images near the top of

taken in afternoon UK sunlight outside, with two different angles.
