March 4, 1969 I entered this world. Since then nothing has really stood out about the number 1969, not until a few years ago when I started going on the online auction site TopHatter. I wouldn't say I was on it all that much, but it was something I did in my spare time between patients. It was a ticker style auction with a penny first bid.

Anyway, I soon figured out the algorithm and soon I was winning every bid for a penny. Unless they had a reserve price I was getting them. At first I got Jewelry, mostly women's jewelry, which I had no need for, but gave hundreds of rings, necklaces and such to anyone I could.

Then I started going after collector currency, a few bills, but mostly coin's, and at first I was getting some pretty rare and old coins. It wasn't long at all that I realized unlike the jewelry, where 100% was all from China, these were fellow Americans and even though I technically wasn't cheating just knowing that they we're losing money on each and not just a little.

So, I contacted 6 of the 9 vendors and told them I was sending the bills & coins back.(69 again above). They accepted them back and all of them said they wanted to give me something for my honesty, I opted for pennys, hey I figured I paid a penny, might as well stick with that. The other 3 I just sent them back without contacting them.

About a week later I received 3 lbs of random what I considered trash. Definitely not for collecting. I ended up with about 150lbs total from all of them. I put them away until about a year ago after I saw a deal on error coins. I wrote down 10 of the error coins that were on that show and I grabbed a handful and found 6 of he ten that day. I watched another show, looked and had over half of them. I can grab a handful and I kid you not ill find at least 2 or more every time. Not, the big ones, but $25, $30, 50...

Then about 3 months ago I found a 1969S Double Die Obverse/ Double Due Reverse/Floating roof with the almost missing FG. The coin is a Red/Brown and is what us say is a MS 63 , I may be wrong, but I've yet to see anything else close to it. Until last night where I stumbled upon a full roll of uncirculated 69D's. That are BEYOND BEAUTIFUL! THEY ARE RED-RED Id say MS67 or MS68 maybe a MS69 and 20 of them have DDO& DDR and the FG is almost invisible.

So, am I just wishing this to be and aren't or could these all be real? They weigh , look legit. Can y'all take a look and tell me?

and interesting story!

We would like to see what you believe could be the well known 1969-S DDO#1, cause there are many, many that are not the big one, and could be attributed to Machine Doubling or similar issues. The chances of finding a legitimate 69-S are quite astronomical but I believe they are still out there. You would have to match your coin up to known examples and see if you have one.

Now you could have stumbled upon a roll of 1969-D cents all missing the FG and have a floating roof die polishing issues.

Of course, seeing pictures once you learn how to post them here will go really far in helping you determine what you have.

Yes--photos, full and sharp, are very welcome. One coin (pics of obverse and reverse) per thread works best. Looking forward to seeing what you may have. Thanks.

PC: We highly recommend IrfanView. (Download) (Irfanview Tutorial)

Apple Computers: Tutorial here: http://goccf.com/t/466343

Cell Phones (iPhone or Android): First, do not upload cell phone pictures of screens. They are terrible. Please check your camera settings are set to Medium quality. If it uses compression use 70%, it's perfectly fine for the internet. For file type please use WEBP if your phone has it, otherwise JPG. Avoid PNG and GIF, they are horrible choices. Be sure to crop the image to only show the coin. This is a great setup for cell phones.
