1795 Capped Bust Right Eagle, MS63+, Rare 9 Leaves, BD-3 Variety
This Coin Sold for $3,360,000.00 in 2022!!! Is it just me or is that absolutely outrageous? To partially answer my own question, yes to me that is outrageous, but to a multimillionaire interested in coin collecting maybe it was a good deal? Would love to hear some of your guys's thoughts!

As you noted that is the rare 9 leaves variety with only 22 pieces known to exist and only 1 finer than this example.

For comparison this 13 leaves variety in PCGS MS65 just sold last night on Great Collections for only $1,338,750. A relative bargain but with about 500 survivors, much more common.

Rare art works often sell for over $10,000,000 so these prices are not surprising.

At these rarity and condition levels, auction irrationality sometimes takes over.

Stick to coins that have an established market.

I'd like to have that coin.

That said, there are lots of great coins like this on the market right now. It should be a buyer's market but sellers have set prices at levels much higher than buyers can afford. Instead of running auctions to move the merchandise they're running on-line coin museums. As browsers we appreciate that, but unless something changes we'll never be buyers. Your dead stock is our eye candy.

That price certainly feels high. The rarity of the variety in my opinion is close to irrelevant as there are just a handful of collectors that assemble this set by die variety. I would expect a decline in price if it was sold again today.

The same coin sold for a million in 2015 as part of the Pogue collection.

Another MS-63 sold for $630,000 in 2019.

Even with low-end coins, the "auction pressure" is high, leaving me as an observer ... add premiums and it's ridiculous what some coins are going for !
