I've been going through a mate's coin collection and noticed this 1875 British? Shilling. There's a couple of ding marks on it but otherwise wear isn't that bad. Also unlike Australian coins if I flip the coin left to right the Queen's head is up-side-down. Is this normal?

Anyone care to give a rough value of this coin?

Yep, "upside down" is normal - Britain didn't finally decide to be "right way up" until the Jubilee series of 1887.

Krause CV for this coin in VF is US$26, EF is $85. There's also a tiny "die number" on silver coins of this period, between the wreath and the date. Looks like "14" on yours, but I can't be sure from that picture. Some people pay extra for certain numbers.

Hi Sap and thanks again. Yes it looks like a 14 above the date. I didn't even notice until you mentioned it.
