From what I'm told, this is the first one that has been up for public auction. There are others out there, including the discovery coin belonging to an acquaintance near Raleigh, NC.

I feel like this will eventually be put into the same category as the Speared Bison nickel and Wounded Eagle dollar. Quite possibly it might also be grouped with the Friendly Eagle dollar, Peg Leg dollar, 3.5 and 3-Legged Buffalo nickels, and so forth. The variety seems to have been discovered in 2016, so if it's still commanding a huge premium at auction 9 years later, I would say that its desirability is pretty well cemented with variety collectors. |
