Doesn't seem high to me, partially because there isn't a lot of clarity on what caused it. Lots of mystery, a dramatic visual difference, and "buzz" will make things more desirable. And remember to factor in the old supply and demand part of the economic equation. Some people might want it because it is non-conforming and confounding. (think 1983 D DDO-001- http://www.varietyvista.com/01b%20L...DDDO001.htm)(ps. But that is a lot for a trail die! )

Quote: Some people might want it because it is non-conforming and confounding. Yep. There are others, as well. The 1934 Lincoln Cent has two equally confounding supposed DDOs, DDO-002/1-DO-003/WDDO-004 (often nicknamed "elf shoes") and DDO-004/1-DO-002/WDDO-006 (with a supposed partial extra date). The list can also include the mythical 1914/1913 DDO Buffalo nickels, the mythical 1956 D-and-S Lincoln Cents, and (as already noted upthread), the 2004-D high and low leaf Wisconsin State Quarters.

For price I guess it varies on collectability too. I don't know anyone personally that collects Presidential dollars. Maybe an error collector would be bidding just because it is an error and doesn't care what type of coin it is,

Marve, I'm going to post one I have tomorrow in a new thread. It's not the same but odd looking, to say the least. Maybe check it out.

FWIW- Technically, this would be a variety since the issue is on the die (therefor multiple exact duplicates would be produced) and not a striking issue, which would vary from one coin to the next.

Just noticed it has been bid up to $375. Auction end this Sunday, wonder if a bidding war will break out?
