Hey all, just wanted to pop in and share my most recent purchase! A 1958-D Doubled Die with the original VDB on the reverse, over struck on a real 1958-D cent. Really pleased with this one, it looks beautiful. Interesting to note that the strike also includes the current VDB under Lincoln's shoulder, so there's two VDB's on this coin!

Very nice, 1962penny!
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Yes indeed - Daniel Carr and his Moonlight Mint can produce some amazing fantasy coins.

Pleased that you enjoy this example.

I'm curious about the apparent arcing cut/groove on the obverse from Lincoln's shoulder through his jacket lapel and into his jaw.

Is that on the 'coin' (replica)?

Looks to be on the flip - where the coin sat originally in it. The coin has moved closer to the edge of the flip. Seen easily on reverse photo as well.

50. Not cheap, but I was willing to shell out for it. Haven't purchased a coin in quite a while, just been relegating myself to hunting in the wild to save money. So decided to splurge with this one!
