Hello, I'm a new collector. I ran across this 1982 Lincoln Cent, mint mark "D". And weight of 3.11g. Please forgive me for the photo quality, I have ordered a camera scope just haven't received it yet. My question is this a special coin? I'm having a hard time telling if it's a small or large date. As when I look at it thrue my loop there is Doubling on the Date making the 2 look wider, also the rim has doubling making it look closer to the 2 than normal. Thx for the help! This is my first post here.

Aye, it's a large date. Suggest not handling coins with finger tips touching coin surfaces.

to CCF. glad you found us here! Telling the difference between large and small date coins can be easy once you learn what to look for. look for the shape of the 2 - a small date 2 has a curve in it, where the large date is straight. also look for the distance from the rim the date is - small date = large gap, large date = small gap here are some image to see what I mean:

I have been hunting cent rolls for a few months and accumulated almost 100 1982 P/D pennies. I need to purchase a scale that will show 0.00 grams otherwise I'm spinning my wheels trying to sort them out. I too have struggled with large date/small date identification until I came across this article from The Lincoln Cent Resource. Perhaps it can help you too. https://www.lincolncentresource.com...es/1982.html

to the CCFd, MartinD! The rim issue appears to be from a slightly misaligned die - a common occurrence on cents. A picture of the reverse would be helpful.

I pulled some of my '82 collection and found what I believe are examples of Large and Small date coins. People here with greater experience than me can confirm if I'm right...or not.

To CCF! You have a Large Date cent. Your coin is also showing a slight Misaligned Die issue as well. No premium. Just a spender. https://www.lincolncentresource.com...es/1982.htmlQuote: Suggest not handling coins with finger tips touching coin surfaces. Either use gloves or hold by the edge only.
