This concerns the following Civil War store card token:

Charnley - Providence, RI 700C-3a, obverse 1147, reverse 1374

It is listed on page 504 of the Fuld book "U.S. Civil War Store Cards".

The "C" which figures prominently on die 1374 has a small raised dot inside according to the image in the book; however, I have seen several specimens advertised in various auctions where the dot is missing (and not worn off, since the grade is usually AU or better).

Is this recognized as a variety of some kind?

@Dearborn: All I have is the Fuld book (2nd edition), as far as the reference goes. Google for the Fuld numbers I posted and you will find lots of online auctions.

There is still merit in owning physical books.

In the meantime, I have discovered that on several auction images of this coin, there is a dot, but the lighting used for the pictures make it almost impossible to see sometimes.
