Could the mark on the reverse across "UNITED" be a possible planchet error?

It looks like something is on your coin, such as tape or glue. Have you tried soaking it in acetone?

Nothing on the coin, no tape, no glue, no acetone, just missing metal that involves a small strip going across the letters in "UNITED".

Looks like it could be a lamination. Silver nickels are known for that.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

Definitely a lamination, lucidfind. That last picture is really good!

Interesting. Given that the lettering appears intact in the lamination, could this be a loss before strike?

Definitely looks to be a bad mix of the alloy with copper showing under the lam peel.
