This week we travel to the land "down under" for a look at the stamps that helped mark the 100th Anniversary of Australia's distinct national coinage - it had previously used the coinage of the UK and other countries.

Two commemorative stamps were issued: 55-Cent and $2.75. The 55-Cent stamp covered the Basic Postage Rate (BPR) for a small letter (domestic); the $2.75 stamp covered the rate for a heavier/larger domestic envelope or international letter.

Shown on the 55-Cent stamp is the reverse of a 1910 Two Shillings silver coin; the coin's reverse depicts the Australian Coat-of-Arms of the time. The $2.75 stamp presents the coin's obverse which depicts King Edward VII, the reigning monarch at the time.

I like this one.

Interesting to read that King Edward VII appeared only on the initial year coinage (1910) and that he died shortly after the first shipment of coins reached Australia.

I, obviously, was not up to speed on my British Monarch history! But - reading from a commems post has enlightened me (again).

I'm a fan of the coinage portrait used for King Edward VII's successor - King George V:

Nice FDC Commems.

As an avid collector (at the time, not so much now), I have these stamps in my collection in mint condition. So here's some close ups
