I posted a number of years ago about a collection I inherited. I hope this is the appropriate forum. I was browsing my old photos and thought I'd ask the group about this medal I still have stowed away somewhere. I'm sorry I don't have a photo of the opposing side, but I was scared to death to touch it at the time I was inventorying everything. XD

Anyway, I'd love to hear what you guys think about it. I'd especially like to hear opinions about conservation =/

That is a stunning medal, HexagonalCrank! It's the first I've ever seen, and after reading the tag it seems that it will be the only one I'll ever see. Conservation of this should be trusted to professionals such as at one of the major grading services or some other numismatic establishment. It will not be cheap, but this medal is worth it.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Beautiful medal with only 45 being struck in silver.
If you decide to send it out, take a photo of the other side to show us.

Very nice! Certainly the centerpiece of a collection of Canadian medals. Handle and store it carefully!

Regarding conservation, I would talk to NGC. It offers conservation services for medals and it would be in a good position to answer your questions and offer guidance. I've seen multiple examples of the high quality of its work.

For a thorough write-up on the medal, see:

Good luck!

Beautiful. These rarely come up for auction. The article commems provided a link for notes that there were 50 silver. The bronze example is in my avatar.
