Cruise ship stops in Cozumel and Costa Maya. I know there are lots of stores that sell (questionable) silver trinkets.

But do the banks there sell old or new silver libertads, or even gold libertads? Any actual coin shops in those ports?

Always searching for those cheap PMs...

A stranger walks into a Mexican bank and start asking for Libertads, especially gold ones? Call me paranoid but do you think that is a good idea? You may not see America again for a few years!

Years ago while on vacation in Acapulco, I purchased two Libertads from a Mexican vendor on the beach who was also selling sterling necklaces. Both of the coins turned out to be 1988 doubled dies. Silver was cheap back then. Acapulco was also safe back then. Different story today.

According to this YouTube channel, he went to Mexico, tried to buy Libertads at a bank. You have to be a citizen of Mexico. But you can buy coins/bullion at coin shops.
