I've been in a philatelic "state of mind" of late, so I decided to have a look at a Philatelic-Numismatic Cover (PNC) that celebrates the 200th Anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Expedition through the Louisiana Territory.

President Thomas Jefferson commissioned Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to lead an expedition into the newly acquired territory of Louisiana - gained from France via the Louisiana Purchase - to explore the uncharted West and to search for a potential water route across North America; their journey began in May 1804 and concluded in September 1806. The lewis and Clark Silver Dollar commemorates the 200th Anniversary of the launch of the Expedition.

On the numismatic side, the PNC includes a 2004 Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Silver Dollar and a 2004 "Peace Medal" five-cent coin from the Westward Journey Nickel Series; each coin is an uncirculated example.

On the philatelic side, the PNC features the three 37-cent Lewis and Clark commemorative stamps issued by the United States Postal Service (USPS) in 2004.

The PNC's cachet presents a forward-facing Native American male with tipis (tepees) in the mid-background and what appears to be a Native American shield art piece in the far background.

The PNC was produced by Fleetwood, not the US Mint. I don't typically purchase such commercial PNCs for my US commemorative coin collection, but I liked the cover's artwork and like the way the colorful stamps convey a modern feel with a nod to the classic style of yesteryear's stamps. So, I made it mine!
