AU55 with a typical weak obverse strike. Reverse looks unc but the obverse looks devoid of luster.

You are not wrong in that assessment. Obverse definitely lacking luster and pulling it down but I still have it slightly higher personally.

I was thinking of AU58 but I asked myself if only the high points were rubbed. On this coin it seems like most of the obverse surface, especially throughout most of the cheek looks rubbed, removing the luster. Fwiw, that was how I got to 55.

Looks like somebody dipped it to get rid of that fingerprint and in reality got rid of the luster. I give it no grade.

How would you dip the coin so that it retains all the reverse luster and removes all the obverse luster?

Thanks for the analysis student, makes sense. Also agree on luster still there in reverse. I will post a few more pictures.

It looks more lustrous in the obverse in your new pictures. The area by the jaw and the area to the left of the ear looks rubbed still. The coin looks very pretty with the colorful toning. reverse also looks well struck for an 85o.

Quote: Panzaldi said I need to stop taking pictures directly under a light so these new pictures are hopefully better good job on the second set of photos. use that in the future. the 85(O)'s are outside the sad strike years for the no mint which started on 86 through 97. typically see these with average strikes. the reverse strike is actually better than avg for the year. the luster appears to be subdued or broken in places. lots of finger/palm prints on the coin. which don't affect grade but would affect value. the overall look of the coin says to me that it may have been dipped at some point but all the chemicals were not removed I'm at AU55 but value wise I think closer to lower AU
