TIA Can anyone tell me if this is a plating error. I've seen some pics online of other plating errors and this looks very similar.

The copper plating looks to have been scraped off the high points of the coin.

As @nfine said, it has been scraped or abraded.

Since 1982, cents are made of a copper plated zinc core.
It is easy for the copper plating to get removed by damage.
Notice it is just the high points that are missing.

It is NOT a plating error - it is a wear situation. Pleas stop looking at those online plating errors websites - they are on there to provide false information just for their profits!
