I picked this one up recently. Looks a little ugly in the pics, much more pleasing in hand. First set are generally what it looks like, 2nd set blasted with light. The one obverse pic showing the paths of the die cracks. The one die crack passing through Liberty's hair around the shoulder almost looks like it travels through to star 12. However, I've not found any other examples that actually show the crack passing all the way through to star 12, so I might just be seeing things.

Generally, it looks like 104a is R.3. But I've seen references to the latest die state reflecting the crack joining stars 8-13 being anywhere from R.5 to R.7 and noted as O-104b unofficially.

CCF, what are your thoughts on this one?

Any and all comments welcome.

I'll say VF20. Scratch between stars 12-13 looks minor. Good shot at straight grading.

It looks like O-104b, the later die state with the more pronounced die crack to the right of star 7 and I can clearly see the crack across stars 8-13 in the periphery. All the cracks match the references. The photography is excellent as I can zoom in to 500% without any blurring. I can easily tell that the die cracked, splitting the first 8 in the date.

Congratulations. My ref. says it is R6 which is certainly uncommon. The appearance befits a 200+ year old coin, so I would resist the temptation to improve its appearance. Just leave it in an environment that will enhance the toning. Maybe a small manila envelope or old dansco.

Nice 104! This die marriage is enjoyable to study and search for the latest die states. The more cracks the cooler the coin!

This example below I had for a short time. After contacting Steve Herrman who assembles the AMBPR price guide and manages the Bust Half Nut Club census entries, he determined this to be the latest die state known because of the triangular die chip between the clasp and the drapery. All of the die cracks are seen on this example, plus a new die state entry for the triangular die chip.

The latest AMBPR has this listed as an unofficial die state at an R-5. I believe the stretching crack along the right stars is the definition for that die state.

There may be a small premium for your coin at this die state, but generally they sell within reason of common date price. The prime die state (no cracks) for this die marriage is extremely hard to find.
