Good day everyone. Can someone tell me about this 1999 Canadian dime that I found in my pocket change. Here are the photos. Seems to be some sort of brownish copper/bronze like plating only the reverse of the coin. It is also chipping away as you can see.

To CCF! Are you able to provide better, clearer, and closer pictures of the area in question?

That colouring is probably caused by environmental damage
and the chipping would just be damage.
Better photos would probably verify this.

Sure. I hope these are clearer, better pictures? 1999 Canadian dime with brownish copper/bronze-like plating only the reverse of the coin. Chipping away a bit too.

I'm thinking environmental damage.

to CCF.

That's an odd one. Looks like it lost it's exterior plating. Maybe a cup holder coin.

Can't be a plating issue, the 1999 dime was made of nickel.
It was year 2001 that the dime was changed to multi plated steel.

Stick the dime (or another one) in a small glass of CocaCola and see what happens in a week or two, refreshing it..
