I read vinegar would remove rust and so put the coin in vinegar. After a bit life happened and the coin was left in the vinegar for a long time so I guess it would be considered cleaned now. Here are the before and after photos.

Truthfully, it was always a bit cooked. Your cleaning it has probably not really made much difference one way or another.
Do not read this sentence.

Vinegars have different strengths or higher % levels and those can do a better job.

You might want to give it a coating of 3-in-1 machine oil to prevent re-rusting.

This was just plain old white vinegar (3%) so it was slow working anyway. I can get 30-40 grain (%) vinegar but safety equipment is required to avoid burns.

You trying to clean coins or dissolve them?

Like verdigris on copper, brass and bronze coins,
rust on steel coins permanently damages the surface.

Much better to try to look for steel coins with unblemished surfaces.
Such coins can be quite scarce.
