As I continue down the ancient coin rabbit hole, I'm learning so much about the history of these coins and the naughty people out there who aren't honest about the history of the "coin" they're selling.
I just learned about the practice of "tooling" and "smoothing." I found this Caligula coin on a reputable website, often mentioned on this forum. But no where in the description does it mention the coin underwent smoothing or tooling. The cynic in me says just because it's not mentioned in the description of the coin on a trusted website, doesn't mean it wasn't done.
I humbly ask you to take a close look at this coin to see if it's been smoothed and/or tooled.
To get as detailed an image of the coin as possible, I sacrificed a view of the entire coin for a more detailed portion of the coin.
As always, many thanks!
