Please help me to attribute the Sept. Severus Denarius Emesa mint
Never seen seating Moneta in Sept. Severus Emesa issue. There is no RIC for seating Moneta.
Due to the incomplete legend on the obverse, I can assume that the full legend is MONET AVG.
Any info is welcome.

It is clearly a Moneta seated type, which is not in the major references and it certainly looks like MONET AVG, which is what I would expect.

I have a few Moneta seated types across a variety of issues....

I initially read your coin as IMP CAE L SEP SE-V PERT AVG COS I-I but having looked at my collection I think that what appears to be the second I must be a die break. The reason for this is that I believe that I have a double die match, which clearly reads COS I.

Obv:- IMP CAE L SEP SE-V PERT AVG COS I, Laureate head right
Rev:- MONET AVG, Moneta seated left, holding scales in right hand, cornucopiae in left
Minted in Emesa, A.D. 193
References:- RIC Page 139 (-) (this reverse type not listed for COS I)

2.88g, 19.17mm, 0o

I have another COS I from different dies here:-

I do have a few COS II coins...

Obv:- IMP CAE L SEP SEV PERT AVG COS II, Laureate head right
Rev:- MONETA .. AVG, Moneta seated left, holding scales and cornucopiae
Minted in Emesa, A.D. 194 - 195
References:- RIC 412 corr., RSC -

2.74 g, 17.72 mm. 180 degree

RIC 412 is noted as MONETA II AVG which is an odd legend. I have three examples of this reverse die (two of Severus and one of Domna) that show that this legend is in fact MONETA .. AVG where the two dots have been misread as II.

My original reading of your coin as COS I-I would not be unexpected, as can be seen below.

Obv:- IMP CAE L SEP SE-V PERT AVG COS I-I, Laureate head right
Rev:- MON-E-T AVG, Moneta seated left, holding scales in right hand, cornucopiae in left
Minted in Emesa, A.D. 194-195
References:- RIC -, RSC -, BMCRE -

3.02gms. 18.83mm. 0 degrees

I bought these two, double die matched coins, several years apart as a complimentary pair.

Obv:- IMP CAE L SEP SEV PERT AVG COS II, Laureate head right
Rev:- MONET AVG, Moneta seated left, holding scales and cornucopiae
Minted in Emesa, A.D. 194 - 195
References:- RIC -, RSC -

The reverse type also occurs in the earlier II CO issue but with the longer MONETAE AVG legend. Here are two examples from a single obverse die but different reverse dies.

Obv:- IMP CAE L SEP SE-V PERT AVG II CO, laureate head right
Rev:- MONETA-E AVG, Moneta seated left, holding scales in right hand, cornucopiae in left
Minted in Emesa. A.D. 194
Reference:- BMCRE -. RIC -. RSC -.

As above but MONET-AE AVG
