Hi, today bought some old coins large lot, and this penny 1887 looks with "V" before date. Coin is not yet cleaned. This "V" is some mintmark maybe?

G'day, 1887 is a year that I collect, but I haven't seen that one before. British mintmarks are usually much smaller, and below the date. And, I haven't heard of a "V" mintmark in the modern era. I'll be looking out for any more of these. Peter in Oz

Hi, I looked again the coin under the magnifying glass and noticed that there is a small number left of this "V" may be X or IX (really very small) but not sure "X" or "IX". Unfortunately, my camera is with only 4 MB resolution and these is my best photos... P. S. New photos via different regime my camera. I think that small number left of large "V" is "X". Some idea for this coin...?

Lightened it a bit.. I was having trouble seeing the details I don't know what the small mark to the left is, but the larger one definitely looks like a 'v' to me.

The H mintmark, if there was one, would be under the date. Some of these have die numbers on them also, though, and I'm not completely sure where they placed those (I just know they exist..) I'll have a look through a couple more places and see if I can locate that info.

Thanks for the help:) Yesterday I got a bulk lot from a power seller from ebay UK, and now I feel that is an interesting coin. No information for similar coins in https://www.tclayton.demon.co.uk (I think). But whether it is appropriate to clean her with preparation for a copper coins or not?

No, no cleaning needed. Especially if done incorrectly, a lot of numismatic value could be lost by doing so. It is definitely an interesting coin! I can't seem to find that link where it talks about the different die markers, so I hope someone else pops in who knows where it is

The small number left in the corner is about 0.35 millimeters (between 0.3 and 0.4 millimeters), it is most likely a Roman numeral "I" is with left gradient of the vertical features. f you know of a similar coin in the world somewhere, please email me. When I get a certificate from a specialist in modern coins in Bulgaria will write again in the topic Thank you!

I know it is a stretch, but maybe the coin is an overstrike. Can you see any other devices that seem out of place?

Coin has been received with more 50-60 old copper coins from the purchase of bulk lot of coins from the UK ( ebay UK), were mainly coins of 1 penny UK Victoria. Coins were smudged and the other looks like 100% original with patina and surface contamination. According http://www.tclayton.demon.co.uk/penny.html in 1887 were minted only penny with obverse "8"/ reverse "N". I am not specialist for british coins. The coin is worn from circulation, but if someone could confirm whether the coin meets these obv/rev(8N), and whether looks authentic, I will appreciate it ... It is 8.6 grams/ 31 mm similar to another my over 40-50 worn pennies from 1880s...
