I have examined several hi-res pictures on the Heritage site, but having difficulty pinning down the specific elements to look for in distinguishing the D/D from the regular strike.

Is there anything except for the mintmark (die clashes, die cracks, etc.) which might help? That "D" is so darn small!

Depends on which RPM you're looking for.

Assuming you mean FS-501 (CONECA RPM-003), there are markers listed on Variety Vista:

The wing-to-rim die crack marker is visible on both PCGS TrueView examples.

Thanks ... this site helps a lot!

For some reason I had to go to the main page and type in the rest of the URL manually before I could get it to open. I think they have some problems with SSL encryption configuration: their main page seems to use https, but some of the subpages do not.

Keep in mind, even if a die crack is present.... doesn't necessarily guarantee it will be an RPM.
