I came across this War Nickel at auction, and for ten bucks, I decided to roll the dice. I was curious if might be a weathered example of 1943-P 5¢ FS-106 DDO with the doubled eye.

The pics have been really odd. The feature is faint. Depending on how I rotate the coin around in the light, it can look really different. The axial pictures don't show the feature, so I think this is a miss, but it has been an odd little puzzler under magnification.

Is there doubling on IGWT, star & date? I'm certain you'd be able to see doubling there.

I do not believe there is doubling on the lettering. However, there also isn't doubling on the lettering of the final certified example, and that is also the only circulated nickel with TrueView. The lettering is even much thinner than the mint state examples, which seems odd.

I think maybe it's just a weird little surface stain that happens to be almost the same shape and placement as the real doubled eye.
