Before I begin, I want to say that I struggled with my pictures for this post. What you see here is the best I could do with the equipment I have to get as close to the details that I want to bring to this forum's attention as I could. So I have a roll of pennies from Manufactures Hanover that are stamped "1960-D UNC SMALL DATE." Having been convinced once before by contributors here to open these uncirculated rolls that I have and to look each coin over for myself, I went ahead and started to do that for this one. But I stopped after the first five coins (the other 45 remain in the roll). I stopped because I noticed the same peculiar markings on both the obverse and reverse of all these first five: a partially filled in 6, doubling to both the date and parts of IGWT; on the reverse, there is an ugly wart of some sort on the T of CENT and another little same something on the E. Please take a look at the pictures below and tell me what I have (keeping in mind that you may have to zoom in on my photos, as I implied above). I would also like to know what you all think I should do with the rest of the roll, leave it as is or finish looking. Because if the first five coins are from the same two dies (as I suspect some of you are going to tell me), doesn't that suggest that there is a high probability that the rest of them will be too? And would that or wouldn't that make them more desirable to a potential buyer down the road?

Sorry, your pics are too small and not clear enough to see minute details. Large focused pics of the date with mint mark would be helpful. You should be looking for some form of doubling to the date, MM and IGWT as a starting point.

With current pictures, I can see die polishing lines, a Die Chip in the 6 of the date, and a Die Chip on the T in Cent. Clearer photos would be helpful.

Yes, lots of die polishing lines. They too are the same coin to coin. I can't tell you how frustrating this is not being able to take better pictures. Nothing I have tried makes a bit of difference. ARGHHHHHHH! Maybe my wife's phone's camera will do a better job of it. Sorry.

Well the small cropped picture of the date isn't too bad. Perhaps you can resize it larger without losing the clarity?

Here is the best I could do with your cropped photo. I'm not seeing any splitting of the numerals or the mm so I think this is just some Machine Doubling going on here. I would still check every coin in the roll for doubling.

Thanks, Mr. T. I tried resizing too: Is this any better?

Just to be clear, whatever is going on with doubling here is happening to all the coins I've checked so far, as in all the first five. Just like the die chips are showing on every coin so far.

Here is the aforementioned roll, by the way:

To start, as others have already stated, we need better closeup pics. That being said, check out Wexler's first listing, WWHO-001, which is not a doubled die but a doubled working hub, which means there will be several hundreds of thousands of these and not worth anything. Also check out Wexler's last listing, WDDO-010, there are some similarities in the die chips but not all and it is a small date like yours. As for looking or not looking at the rest, you have already opened the roll and think it does not matter at this point, so I would go ahead and check out the rest. I have had unc. rolls I have found the same thing in though, all from the same dies. Good luck!
