Dear friends,
Please help me to attribute the Julia Domna denarius I recently purchased. On the reverse of the coin there is an incomplete legend: MONETAEA COS.
Any information is welcome.

After a detailed search I found on acsearch.com a similar denarius in RIC IV 611 (Septimius) https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=3331617 the same die match. That is Julia Domna Alexandria mint denarius. The coin is worn, but still quite rare.

That information is however incorrect. It is NOT Alexandria but is Emesa.

Here is my example from different dies.

And here is my Septimius Severus with a reverse die match to my example.

I have a strong liking for these rare reverses with AVG II COS reverses. I have a further 8 or so examples of a range of these AVG II COS reverses in my collection and am always on the look out for more. Yours is an excellent find

Here are a few of my other II COS style reverses.

4 specimens known, Budapest, Barry Murphy (2 spec.) and this example, all from the same die pair. The same reverse die muled with an obverse legend ending II C, BM ex Bickford-Smith.

Here is a pair of coins that are doubly unusual. They have a II COS obverse legend (same die pair) and a II COS reverse legend. I am only aware of three coins from this obverse die. Here are two of the three examples known.

Obv:- IMP CAE L SEP SEV PERT AVG II COS, Laureate head right
Rev:- BONAE SPEI II COS, Spes standing holding flower and lifting skirt
Minted in Emesa, 194 - 195 A.D.
References:- RIC -. RSC -. BMC -.
